Understanding weighted averages

Combine values that contribute different amounts to an overall average, or calculate the future value needed to reach a target.

Steps

  1. Enter each value and its weight.
  2. Add all relevant components before reading the result.
  3. Use Goal mode to solve for a future component with a known weight.
Example

Example: 80 with weight 40 and 90 with weight 60 produces a weighted average of 86.

Formula / method

Weighted average = Σ(value × weight) ÷ Σ(weights).
